from Marta with Love

Because I wanna…

I made a few resolutions for 2013, one of which is to sew what my heart desires and not from a place of obligation.  In other words: sew what I want because I wanna!

In honor of said resolution, I’m currently working on another simple patchwork quilt using each print from Anna Maria Horner’s Field Study collection.  And I’m totally smitten.  I think this is my favorite quilt to date!  Here’s my progress so far:

Cutting…

Cutting...

Admiring…

Arranging…

Piecing…

Piecing...

Pressing…

Ironing...

And a helper. Lying around is a thankless job.

and a helper :)

The quilt will eventually be 77″ x 84″, with each patchwork square measuring 7″ finished.  I found this to be a great size for the squares since they’re big enough to show off the awesome Field Study prints but small enough to keep the quilt looking “patchworky”  (yep, patchworky).

I’ll finish the top this week so I can baste it at the Front Range Modern Quilt Guild meet-and-sew this Saturday. Then I think I’ll quilt it using the dogwood pattern shown in this tutorial by Elizabeth Hartman.  What do you think?

P.S. Did you know Field Study linen/cotton blend is coming out in April?  I die.

(Right after I link up to W.I.P. Wednesday at Freshly Pieced, that is.)

Love the quilt! I only ever quilt to please myself, too much work otherwise.

Please don’t die. 🙂 It’s beautiful! I love quilts made with just plain ol’ squares of fabric, because it’s so fun to look at all of the pretty fabric. I might be most impressed with your post-cutting stacking skills though.

Simple patchwork is really just the best, especially with the lovely, full-scale prints in this collection. This is going to be gorgeous. 🙂 I should follow your lead and make more of what I want this year too!

Oh, I love this! I think that this is my current favorite line of fabric. I just picked up a few more charm packs when they were on sale last week at Craftsy.
