Indian Summer Zip Pouch

Indian Summer Zip Pouch - from Marta with Love.JPG

After today, I'm no longer going to acknowledge the fact that for every one quilt I sew, I've probably made ten zip pouches.  I'm still a quilter and always will be, but the pouches are instant gratification and make me HAPPY.  I am hereby absolving myself of quilt-blogger-who-excessively-posts-about-zip-pouches guilt. Oh, look, another zip pouch I made.  Wee! This one was for my cousin, Mika, an uber talented graphic design student who helped me design some new quilt labels [for … [Read more...]

Open Wide Zip Pouch Part Deux

Open Wide Zip Pouch - from Marta with Love

A while back, I tried Noodlehead's Open Wide Zip Pouch for the first time and made a couple small errors I wanted to fix for the next time.  Here's the result of my second try, and this time it was error-free enough to give as a gift to a close friend's daughter for her birthday.  If you're reading this, I love you, Squirt!  Materials Used: Main print: Field Study by Anna Maria Horner Center strip: Robert Kaufman, yarn-dyed Essex in flax Lining and contrast … [Read more...]

Trial and Plenty of Error

Bella Open Wide Zippered Pouch - from Marta with Love.jpg

With a couple birthdays happening this week, I decided to try Noodlehead's Open Wide Zippered Pouch Tutorial.  The first one I made has a few oopsies, though, so I'm keeping it! First mistake: the awkwardly folded zipper tail.  It didn't turn out smooth and flat like Anna's so next time I'll be more careful to pull the zipper away without creating any folds when I sew to the end of that seam during construction.   I'll also cut less off my zipper at the end --I like the longer zipper … [Read more...]

Friends are the family you choose for yourself…

The Girls

...says a very wise girl I know.  Such friends are worthy of some pretty righteous adoration, yes?  Well my way of showing that is by sewing gifts, so this year I made personalized clutches for 6 of my best gal pals.  I used Noodlehead's go-to tutorial, just without boxing the corners. For free-spirited, surfer beach babe, Ali: Stylish, classy and caring Andrea: Playful, feminine, kind-hearted Heather: Outgoing, wise and edgy Katie: Navy-blue-loving, Kate-Spade-adoring, … [Read more...]

Madrona Road Bow Clutch

Bow Clutch - from Marta with Love

Yeah, I made another clutch. Got somethin' you wanna say about it? Like with all my projects, I made it with love. But this clutch (tutorial here) contains an exceptional amount of that sweet ingredient. It's for my beautiful friend, Nicke, who just lost her mom. Nicke is in the Heal Circle of the do.Good Stitches charity quilting bee with me, and October also happened to be her month in the circle. Rather than just send her a couple blocks and call it a day, I decided to package her … [Read more...]

A pouch, a clutch, and some dog stank eye

Coco and a makeup pouch - From Marta with Love

My dad is leaving for Poland in a couple days so I snapped to and made some small goodies for my two favorite people in the entire world: my sweet, classy, devoted grandma ("Babcia") and my over-the-moon phenomenal, kind, hilarious, generous aunt, Jola (pronounced yo-la).  I made them each a quilt last summer, so this year I scaled the gifts down quite a bit. Pouch for Babcia My first experiment in designing my own paper piecing pattern. A success! Gave it an obligatory spritz of … [Read more...]

Makeup Zip Pouch

Makeup Zip Pouch - From Marta with Love

I've been pretty dang productive lately, despite feeling completely overwhelmed with home-related to-dos and various life stresses.  Sewing can be such a great distraction from said life stresses :)  The last week and a half alone, I sewed a top, a dress, and this little cutie: These little pouchies (made using this Noodlehead tutorial) are super quick and easy.  The tutorial was awesome, but next time I make one I'm going to change a few things, which I think almost everyone does anyway. … [Read more...]

Fun with Anna Maria Horner

IMG_3578

Awesomely awesome news: Anna Maria Horner visited my local quilt guild! On Friday night Anna Maria gave an inspirational (read: mind-blowing) and eloquent lecture, exclusively for the Front Range Modern Quilt Guild, which included a fantastic trunk show and insights into her very deliberate and thoughtful creative process. During our drive up, a couple guild friends and I were wondering how she could possibly speak--and hold our attention--from the scheduled 6 p.m. start until 9 p.m. when … [Read more...]
